Basics: File Locations, formats?

Post by pgiltner »

Okay, got the d/l right away.

2 Questions off the bat:

where to files like macros, glossaries go?

What format shd I save in? Can I use my old nisus macros, glossaries, etc?

Nisus Writer Express does not support glossaries. The glossaries you have from Nisus Writer Classic will not work. Neither will your old Nisus Writer Classic macros.

For safe-keeping, for the possiblity that a future version of Nisus Writer Express will be able to read and use your Classic glossaries and macros, we suggest you put them:

~/Library/Application Support/Nisus Writer/

Regarding the format in which to save your files, we suggest RTF.

New macros go in the Macros folder.

~/Library/Application Support/Nisus Writer/Macros/

You can open the macros folder directly from the Macros menu, or, if you choose Save As Macro... Nisus Writer Express points the Save As dialog to this folder:

~/Library/Application Support/Nisus Writer/

Then create a Macros folder and, thereafter, Save As Macro... will point to the appropriate folder. We'll look into making the Macros folder in the appropriate location on installation of Nisus Writer Express.

Thank you for the hint.

Okay, then.

I assume that ~/Library/ refers to the library that lives in the same directory as my home directory?

Exactly.

~/

means "Home". It took me a while to get used to it too.
