Newbie Question

I'm a novelist looking for new word processing software. Downloaded NWE, and it passed my first test with flying colors: searching for hard paragraph marks and replacing them with another special character. Totally easy and intuitive. Yay!
My second test is that I can't write in 'page layout' mode. So I was very happy to find 'Draft View.'
Except I want to turn on two features in 'Draft View'.
One, continually updated page numbering, preferably in the bottom bar--so if I click in the middle of a manuscript, I'll immediately know what page I'm on.
And two, some indication of soft page breaks, a dotted line a la Word or something similar. (Like the line that appears when I insert a -hard- page break.)
I can't figure how to do either of these, and can't use software without. So I thought I'd ask for help before spending too much time mucking about!
Thanks.
