Numbered Lists and MS Word

I have created some documents using Nisus defaults for a numbered list, and which were saved in the default RTF format. It works fine when the files are opened in Nisus. When these files were opened in Word, the numbering was off. E.g., instead of 1, 2, 3, 4, it might be 1, 6,7, 8. Places where it should have resumed at 1 continued the numbering from a previous list. This is important because I need to be able to share these files with Word users. Is there a way to deal with this?
