NEW VERSION DOWNLOADED EVEN THOUGH NOT COMPATABLE!

I have Mac 10.5.8. I got an message say new version to download of the Writer Express.
I downloaded. Now the program says "NOT COMPATIBLE WITH THIS MAC!"
Shouldn't the s-ware of checked before downloading?????
How do I go back to my last version?? Can no longer open up program!
