Is it possible to switch smart quotes off?

Post by cstross »

I want to switch smart quotes off.

I work on two types of documents: manuscripts and perl scripts. Perl scripts do not like smart quotes, funnily enough, and neither do copy editors in my line of work. But as far as I can tell, NWE automatically inserts smart double-quotes. Is there any way to disable this?

Open Preferences, click on QuickFix, uncheck Curly Quotes box.

Thanks -- I slid right past "QuickFix" because it didn't register as a preference panel.

(I've been conditioned to look for "Autocorrect" by too much exposure to Microsoft Word, OpenOffice, and other competitors. This might be a user interface issue worth looking at; while QuickFix makes a lot of sense now I know what I'm looking for, it's non-standard terminology for users who switch word processors a lot. What other gotchas await switchers?)
