Pasting problems

When I copy text and then try to paste using the Alt+Cmd, P keyboard commands, for some strange reason all that is pasted is an arabic number (sometimes 3, sometimes 7, etc.). Is this a bug?

Disregard - I was using the wrong key - it's Ctrl, not Alt.
