Watermark or Background: feature request

Post by Bob Stern »

Considering that the demo version of NWP prints a watermark on the last page, would it be feasible to add a feature allowing the user to define a graphic or text watermark that is superimposed on every page?

This would be useful to California lawyers, who are required to format pleadings with a vertical line along the left margin between the line numbers and the text.

Alternatively, does anyone know if it possible to add such a watermark or background by defining a suitable quartz filter, which can be invoked in the ColorSync pane of the Print dialog? (I don't know anything about quartz filters, so this is a stab in the dark.)

Perhaps there's also a way to do it by defining a PDF Workflow that can be invoked using the PDF button in the Print dialog.

Good one, Bob. Obviously it CAN be done because it HAS been done! Further, the "Insert Images" already has in place "stuck to the page" and siting images behind the text.

Probably no need to have a specifically "generate watermark" typ thing (like we had with the old Canvas through the drawing layer, because there are plenty of el cheapo but quite capable little drawing and image apps extant that could do the job via linkback.

Could probably be scripted, if it comes to that.

Cheers, Geoff

"Insert Images" can insert a graphic on one page, but not at the same location on every page.

A macro that inserts the same image on each page would not work unless every page ends with a hard page break, which would be absurd.

I'm open to additional suggestions!

I've got nothing to add except "Yes please!"

Hi everybody.
I re-open this topic because I see that this feature request is not yet implemented in NWP1.2
Does anyone knows how to add a watermark in NWP... except using Word2004 > Insert > Watermark :o ?
Thanks

As a possible incentive for Nisus to add this feature, Pages 09 apparently can do it because some California lawyers on the MacLaw discussion list for Mac-using lawyers recently said they are switching from Word to Pages 09.

Martin, if it makes a difference, I can find out more about how Pages 09 implements the vertical line. (But if it doesn't make a difference in the eventual implementation by Nisus, I'd rather not take the time to investigate Pages 09.)

It's still true that NWP has no watermarking feature, sorry.

No need to investigate Bob, but thanks for the offer. I think the pleading page vertical line + numbering could be implemented using either a watermark or floating text box; I believe Word uses the latter. If you want to use NWP you're currently limited to using our Line Numbering feature. The difficulty there is that the numbers displayed are linked to the actual number of lines of text on the page. I would have thought that would be the only sensible way to do it, but it looks like whomever wrote the pleading page guidelines disagrees :P
