Crashes on Snow Leopard

Post by excessus »

Hello!

I have been using Nisus Writer happily on my iMac24 and I really love it. In fact I have wrote two novellas using it that are being sold on Spain (check www.loscaminantes.net if you are curious). Sadly, I bought a new iMac27 and did a Time Machine restore from the 24. Everything works great except good old Nisus Writer. It launches, and when the empty document appears, it crashes unceremoniously. You have like 2 seconds until it crashes - in that time you can even type something on the blank document.

I have completely uninstalled it, and installed the newer version 3.3.2 to no avail - same problem. I cannot submit a bug report because i am not fast enough to do that.

Any idea where to look? I would really hate dismissing this great word processor :( Also, all the invoices on my company and budgets are done with NWE :(

Cheers!

Oh yes, sorry. Forgot to mention the iMac24 uses Leopard, and the iMac27 uses Snow Leopard (10.6.3)

This may be caused by a corrupt preferences file which continues to be used even if you reinstall the application.

Quit NWE if it is running.
Drag the file 'com.nisus.NisusWriter.plist' from your Library/Preferences folder on to the Desktop.
Launch NWE.

If the application does not crash, you can trash the 'com.nisus.NisusWriter.plist' from the Desktop.

Thanks, Hamid. Tried that, and it still crashes. It did not recreate any such file again - so its not even arriving to that point :(

Your preferences file may be 'com.nisus.NisusWriterExpress.plist', which you can drag on to the Desktop.

Thanks for the crash log snippet- do you think you could send us the full crash log? It would also be helpful if you could include the console log, in case there's anything interesting there. You can send them to me directly to:

Now the matter has been solved, thanks to the outstanding support received by mail. I wish the biggest companies would have this level of customer support and attention to clients, specially when the problem was not Nisus Writer, but the font "Franklin Gothic" that was to blame (maybe corrupted, I dont know). Disablind it made good old Nisus Writer happy again and so I am.

I bid you much thanks, Nisus Writer team. I am certainly impressed :)

Cheers,
