Dictation in Mountain Lion

Post by chazzo »

Are there any plans to make use of the Dictation feature in 10.8? I see it popping up in Word 2011, TextWrangler, even DEVONthink -- and it works rather well for me, Would be very handy in NWP.

Yes, it works already. I just tested in Text Wrangler, Mellel, and NWP. They all handled it the same.

Did you hit the Fn key twice to start it?

Dictation does work in NWP, even though the menu Start Dictation does not appear under the Edit menu. In other applications, even those which are quite old and have not been updated, Start Dictation appears under the Edit menu.

The lack of a "Start Dictation" menu command in Nisus Writer (when running on OSX 10.8) does seem to be a bug. We'll take a look at getting this fixed- thank you!

In the meantime, as exegete and Hamid mentioned, one can use the keyboard shortcut.

The just released version 2.0.4 should fix this omission; the Dictation menu should appear in version 2.0.4.
