Nisus Writer Pro version 2.1.1 is compatible with Mac OS X 10.11 "El Capitan". At this time we aren't aware of any significant problems. If you see anything unusual after switching to 10.11, please let us know using the menu Help > Send Feedback.

We still aren't aware of any significant issues when using Nisus Writer on Mac OS X 10.11. Our own testing and user reports so far have not discovered any major issues (no crashes or disabled features). However, we have had reports from users that text line spacing may be slightly off.

The problem only affects text with its paragraph line spacing set to "multiple"; line spacing set to "fixed" does not appear to be affected. The issue also only impacts line spacing greater than 1x (single spaced lines). The larger the line spacing, the larger the error in text layout. For example, in a document with a line height multiple of 2x (double-spaced lines) we've seen that the OSX 10.11 text layout engine makes lines too tall by about 5%. That is a small error, but over many lines of text, it can add up and affect pagination, resulting in more document pages than expected.

We're still investigating the issue, but it's something that you might consider before upgrading to OSX 10.11.

After further investigation we've discovered the bug lies with OSX 10.11 and is not specific to Nisus Writer. You can observe the same incorrect line spacing in Apple's TextEdit. We've reported the bug to Apple and hope they are responsive in fixing it.

We've also learned that the bug is only triggered by certain fonts. For example, Times New Roman is improperly spaced, while Helvetica is not.

We've synthesized and formalized this information in an FAQ entry on this issue.
