Good morning everyone, …it's time to wake up! This is Radio Nisus Writer. Rise and shine! Hope you all had nice dreams. :–)
We'll start the day with a song by the amazing alternative rock band KALEO.

Wow, this was really something, wasn't it?
To chill out a bit, let's now listen to Guitar Islancio, a jazz trio which has specialized in old Icelandic folk music. Never heard of it? Well, here's a nice example called "Cyber Flight" and … it's actually my favorite :–)

G'day, Þorvarður et al
Well, that's something a bit different for us, isn't it? A nice little interlude, even if it is a shameless plug for Icelandic culture.
Forget the alarm bell: the first piece would suffice as the wake-up call by itself. I quite liked it.
And I liked the notion of "Radio Nisus Writer". Very clever.
Cheers,
Adrian

Re: Music: KALEO and Guitar Islancio
Thanks Þorvarður for sharing and turning-up radio Nisus!
KALEO sounded rockin' but not quite my thing. I did really enjoy that Guitar Islancio performance. I may see if I can descend a YouTube rabbit hole and listen to more during my work day...

Re: Music: KALEO and Guitar Islancio
Hello Adrian and Martin,
I do not follow the latest development in the music industry anymore as I used to do when I was young, therefore I didn't hear about the indie-rock stars KALEO until quite recently myself.
They opened for The Rolling Stones during their European tour in 2017. I obviously missed that.
I don't go to live concerts anymore, and since Jumpin’ Jack Flash (1968) I have not heard much from the Stones that I would label as 'groundbreaking'. In my opinion they stopped being creative at that point, and since then they've just been repeating the same old songs over and over again.
KALEO's lead vocalist, by the way, looks exactly like my own son, and that gives me an uncanny feeling when I watch them online.
I have come to like Surface Sounds, their third studio album. I don't mean to say that this is my favorite music though, but Jökull Júlíusson's voice is certainly very unusual, and – contrary to Björk – he can actually sing.

I mentioned Guitar Islancio mainly because of the two guitarists, Gunnar Þórðarson and Björn Thoroddsen. The guitar has always been my favorite musical instrument.
Björn Thoroddsen, the founder of the trio, has collaborated with many musicians including the Australian Tommy Emmanuel. I'm a big fan of Tommy Emmanuel, and …I admit it, that's a shameless plug for Australian culture. ;–)

Hi Elbrecht et al,
I hope their worldwide Fight or Flight Tour 2022 doesn't have to be cancelled due to the pandemic and related security concerns.
By the way, I like your avatar. Is it a depiction of the Trimurti (Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva)?
Happy New Year to all Nisus users!

Hi Þorvarður –
I found my avatar by chance in the net once – it is from a wooden sculpture of Chan Buddhist monk Baozhi (Jp: Hoshi; K: Poji, 保志/寶志, 418–514) and I found only right now about it: The piece depicts “the monk’s face in supernatural corporeal transformation, splitting open to reveal the face of the numinous Eleven-Headed Kannon [Guanyin],” symbolizing his enlightenment (Levine, 2005, p. 72)

PS: From The Princeton Dictionary of Buddhism, p. 98: Baozhi http://www.elbrecht.com/Baozhi.pdf

I like a wide variety of music, but a lot of the time I listen to electronica because it's not too distracting while working and coding. Not necessarily high energy club music, but something like this DJ set is very nice... and wow Mont Saint-Michel is a gorgeous location! What kind of music do you like?
Re: Music: KALEO and Guitar Islancio
Lieber Elbrecht,
A "supernatural corporeal transformation" from 2017. This time not carved in wood but captured with the camera:
Bodhisattva Klitschko attains the state of nirvana after being enlightened by the Ch'an master Anthony Joshua.
---

@Martin
I didn't know about Mont Saint-Michel. You are right, it's a gorgeous location! Thanks for sharing, Martin.
I found here a nice panorama view from a drone:

And somebody explores Mont Saint Michel here on foot:

A great touristic spot, certainly, but I don't know whether I would like to live there permanently. Seems to require a superb, athletic condition to walk up and down the maze of all those little, narrow streets and alleys…

Re: Music: KALEO and Guitar Islancio
Those were nice videos to get a feel for the place, though maybe one day I can still visit and close my Apple Watch activity rings. I like to explore mazes of narrow streets and stairs, especially with a coastal view like that!Þorvarður wrote: ↑2022-01-16 01:47:51 @Martin
