finicky font size

Post by Val »

Hi, I have been using Nisus for many years without any problems.
Now I have encountered a really annoying one.
A 70,000 word manuscript that I saved in TNR 12 will only display on the screen in a tiny font size, even when I enlarge it to 18. When I print the MSS--TNR font size 18--it prints as a tiny, maybe 8 font.
No amount of fiddling with font sizes and saving as a word document changes the actual displayed and printed font.
Sorry if I haven't used the appropriate technical terms. Hope someone can help.
Cheers,
Val

Let's start with this aspect before we get to printing:

This is seemingly a contradiction. If you enlarge the font size to 18 points, how can it show in a "tiny font size" like 12 points? You can certainly adjust the document zoom level (e.g. 50% vs 150%) to help with on-screen visibility, but font size 18 is font size 18.

Different fonts (e.g. Times vs Helvetica) have different ideas about how large a particular point size should look. 18 point Times may be smaller than 18 point Helvetica. But for a single font, a font size of 18 should always be larger than font size 12.

It may help us understand your situation if you share an example file that exhibits the tiny font. You don't need to share your whole 70K word manuscript. A file with a single sample paragraph should suffice.

And yet it does. I have been using Nisus daily for nearly 10 years and never encountered this before.
Hope the attached gives you some idea.
