I am using the current version of Express (2.1.3) with Tiger (10.4.1) both on a G3 iBook and a Cube. On both I have the same problem.
I open a document in in NWE and within about ten seconds a blank rectangle appears in the upper part of the screen, centrally, as if NWE or the system were trying to open a dialogue box or similar. At this point NWE freezes and I am obliged to ForceQuit.
This makes progress very slow! Re-installing helps for a while. I haven't yet managed to isolate a possible clash with any other application. I have no other problems on the G3 iBook, but I am having an occasional kernel panic on the, much modified, Cube.
Clues?
NWE Freezing leading to ForceQuit
David, have you tried removing your preferences for Nisus Writer? Find the file "com.nisus.NisusWriter.plist" in your Library/Preferences folder. Move it to you Desktop and try launching Nisus Writer again. If you no longer have a problem, then please send us the preferences file at support@nisus.com.

Thanks for you suggestion - it has become automatic to zap preference files when reinstalling applications - I'll remember simply to remove it to the DeskTop in future.charles wrote:David, have you tried removing your preferences for Nisus Writer? I reinstalled both NWE and Tiger on the Cube - you will recall I was getting occasional kernel panics - and have had no problems of either kind since. I think that there must have been a problem with the first Tiger installation.

I am having exactly this problem, both with 2.1.3 and alpha 4, and deleting NWE's preferences and default new file have not fixed it. I just deleted the preferences, opened NWE again, and saw a new file in front of me on the screen. At that point, the Console & System logs showed the following. Typing one word brought up the white box and froze the program.

I played with this some more and found the common element:
Nisus Writer Express[9209] .scriptSuite warning for attribute 'selectedText' of class 'NWDocument' in suite 'NisusWriter': 'NSTextStorage' is not a valid type name.
I tried throwing away all of the macros and it worked. Alpha 4 now works too. I don't know what the problem was with the old version of your macro but the error trapping sure could be improved.
