In Nisus Writer terminology things like font, color, underline, etc, are all "attributes". A "style" is something that defines a set of attributes. Content that you paste from other sources may or may not have proper styles attached to it.

For instance, the default "Heading 1" style defines the attributes "bold", "Tohoma font", and "font size: 14 pt". You could paste text from another application that was bolded 14pt Tahoma, but it would not necessarily have a proper Heading style applied.

Thus, as Craig was explaining, you might not receive the dialog alerting you to style conflicts. Not only because the content you are pasting might not have any styles applied, but also because it might have named them differently.

I could give you that, though I wonder once I past it in and look at my style box, it doesn't have any style shaded, like "Heading 1" as in that is the style imported

for example, if I open a word file I have from some else. and copy some text that has the style "body text" and past it into a new nisus file, why isn't there the window asking me if want to bring that style in

of course if I go into that word document and into the style sheet and change "body text" to underline and then paste it, the window comes up.

<hr>

that all aside, if I am copying text that is 18 point and bold into a document that has 12 point and regular as the default, I sort of want the choice of either to leave it 18 and bold or to coincide with what I have going on in the moment

if I give you more of m 2ยข pretty soon you will be a banker

gem*boy

interestingly.. if I go back to that said word.doc that has 'normal' defined as arial 12 point and my NWE defines 'normal' as georgia 12 point, the window comes up, as I would want it

well who knows what I really want, what I would like is that choice on all type that isn't georgia regular, 12 point 1 spacing, margine to the .5 inch and so on

you may say I am a dreamer, but

call me lefty

on the other hand, one of the things I miss about NW is the ability to import styles from other documents...

currently as a work around, I will have a file set up that works how I want --- say for a murder mystery I am working on --- delete all the text and do a save as...

so I have things like shift-cmd-1 triggers character
shft-cmd-2 is dialogue
and so on

...wait have I gone off on enough of a tagent to be in the wrong form yet...?
