Have you installed the 3.01 update?
Spelling problems were one of the fixes, and 3.01 fixed the problem for me.

Re: NWP 3.0 and Erroneous Spellcheck
There were indeed spellchecking bugs in Nisus Writer Pro version 3.0. We believe version 3.0.1 fixes all known problems with spellchecking, at least on the Nisus Writer side of things.
Unfortunately it looks like some users are still having intermittent issues with words being improperly flagged as misspelled. This seems to occur more often with small words like "of". We believe this is a system issue with macOS, as some of the affected users have reported seeing the same problem in other apps like Apple Mail.
If you continue to have trouble you might adjust which system dictionary is used for spellchecking. You can control this in Nisus Writer's language preferences, but you can also adjust your System Preferences. At least one user told us they prevented the problem by switching their system spelling preference not to use "Automatic By Language". I hope that helps!

Not seeing this in other apps like mail or textedit, and the switching dictionaries trick doesn't seem to affect it.

Re: NWP 3.0 and Erroneous Spellcheck
I'm sorry that didn't help. I wish I knew what else to suggest, but this does seem to be a system problem. In fact I just encountered it while replying to another topic here on the Nisus forums. You can see Safari incorrectly flagged the word "to" I had entered:
Are you able to reliably trigger the problem? That is, is there some action you can take (eg: opening a certain file) that consistently triggers the errant spellchecking? If so, maybe we can isolate the issue and report it onwards to Apple.Re: NWP 3.0 and Erroneous Spellcheck
It’s pretty much like you mentioned. Certain words in certain places seem to set it off — were at the end of a sentence (though not in the first paragraph), the word to in different forms. It seems to be more frequent on words that have homonyms or that are part of easily mistaken forms (were, we’re, etc). It’s almost like the grammar checker is trying to trip, but sends an erroneous signal to the spell check. That would seem impossible though, since there is no grammar check there. . .
Re: NWP 3.0 and Erroneous Spellcheck
That is indeed the case, it seems. There is a lot on the Scrivener forums and in many other places on the internet, apparently, and has been reported to Apple. Someone in Apple it seems decided it would be a good idea to integrate a degree of grammar checking into the spell-check system in 10.14 … which has screwed it up.

That fits with my own experience. The last spellchecking mistake I saw highlighted in Apple Mail was a word that felt like a grammar checker gone awry. The word was "than" or "then" if I remember correctly.

Re: NWP 3.0 and Erroneous Spellcheck
Nisus Writer Pro 3.0.2 works around this bug in Mojave, where words the system grammar checker thinks are improperly used are incorrectly flagged as spelling mistakes. We reported the bug to Apple, but we also found a workaround so Nisus Writer can identify these inappropriate markings and filter them out.
