When you insert a cross-reference asking to show the paragraph number of the referred bookmark, Nisus does not take into account how paragraph numbering is adapted through sections; Nisus just counts the paragraphs since the beginning of the whole document and shows the corresponding number.

i.e. if numbering starts at second section, the shown paragraph number at the cross-reference does not point to the paragraph of the bookmark.

Cheers ! 3.4.1. of Nisus Pro is much better !

PS: And while you are at the cross-reference mini-bug: ci-dessus and ci-dessous are french expressions (uswed instead of above and below) where the hyphens are non-breaking hyphens !!

Not sure whether this is a bug. Perhaps an intended behavior, because it can be useful to have Nisus count all paragraphs in a document and not having to pay extra attention to where the numbering begins.

For the scenario you described, I would use Display Text as "List Item Number" instead. That would do exactly what you want to do, as far as I can see. The method is versatile and can be applied in more than one way.

Here is what you can do:
1. Create bookmarks the usual way.
2. Then assign an incremental numbered List Style to the text of the section for which you want to display paragraph numbers. Each paragraph now starts with an incremental number, like this:

etc.

3. Now, when you cross-reference, you get correct paragraph numbers.




4. If you don't want to see every paragraph start with a number, then open Style Sheet, select the numbered List Style and assign it the Text Color white. That will make the numbers at the beginning of each paragraph invisible, but the numbers in the text body will not be affected.


You can also insert Reference to List Item and have the text be displayed as Paragraph Number.

Instead of displaying text as "Paragraph Number" you can also choose Display Text: List Item Number. Both work fine.

I did not know that you can use a Reference To List ! It's interesting, especially when you refer to Lists

For Line- or Paragraph-Numbers, I am noi so sure. From my point of view, it's a question of using a system a natural way. "What you mean is what you get ! ". And so, from this point of view, the line- or paragraph-numbering you see printed should be also available.

But your tip is helpfull, for real references to lists, and also when you desperately need a working paragraph number
