Need a FILE CONVERSION utility: WordStar 4 to RTF

Hard to believe, but before adopting Nisus Writer on my first Mac in April 2006, my word processor was (and sometimes still is) WordStar 4 -- ever since 1984. And I am a professional writer.

So... I have a lot of WordStar 4 files I would like to be able to work on in NW. Simple files I can output as plain TXT from WS4. Easy.

But I have several hundred large files that include formatting, which I would like to convert to RTF with all or most of the formatting intact.

Does anyone know of a utility that can do this? Convert WordStar 4 (NOT 5 or 7) to RTF, or even to DOC (yuk).

I do have an old DOS utility called xword that will convert WS4 files to several other 1980s orphan file formats -- such as xywrite.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Normally, for this type of conversion, you'd use MacLinkPlus, but the list of supported formats shows that the earliest version of WordStar it supports is WordStar *5*.

I would recommend asking your question in the WordStar Users Group; they might be able to give you a detailed answer.

Thanks for the links.

I do have WordStar 5. I did some experimenting, and found I can do some reformatting in WS5 that is not possible in 4, then re-save each file in ws5 format, which should then be ingestible by MacLink.

Thanks again.

I've never figured out how to use automator, but cound't you use it to save all your wordstar files as rtf's and then just open then as needed with NWP
