Hi is there a way to have the page number show up on the right for odd pages and left for even pages (in the footer)? Well I think there is a way since the NWP manual does this but I can't find it.
Thanks!

Check the 'Use Facing Pages' box in the Section palette in Tooldrawer.

Thanks.
I have a long document (I'm writing a lab manual for my class) with many section breaks (insert/section break/odd page for each chapter beginning) and using facing pages is goofy: I get the first section behaving ok but the other sections get screwed up (all on right or all on left) even though the facing pages is checked.
Thanks again

To apply the same setting to the entire document, select the entire document and then check the 'Use Facing Pages' box. If it is already checked while the whole document is selected, uncheck the box and check it again. The settings will apply to all the sections.

I think there is bug or something. Highlighting the whole document then choosing facing pages doesn't work. One section works but all the other sections stay either left or right justified with no regard to even/odd pages. Clicking on a footer and then choosing facing pages doesn't seem to do anything either.

Thanks anyway.

There may be one or more overriding rulers. Removing them should fix the problem. Place the cursor where the text does not flow as expected and check in the Statusbar at the bottom left of the document window. The ruler icon will appear in the Statusbar if there is an overriding ruler.

Thanks again.
I'm starting with a blank document to test it.
I create garbage text so it's several pages.
I want some pages to start at odd page numbers since it will be printed on two sided paper and and I want the chapters to start on an odd page.
The only way I can think of is to insert/section break/odd page.

Now, it doesn't matter if I do the "facing pages" first or not, for the whole document or not. But once I have section breaks in the document, the "facing pages" breaks down and the rules for even and odd pages are the same now (even though the header/say even/odd page in them indicating it should work).

I tried this many times in different order (create facing pages first, create sections first, all the permutations) just to make sure.

It's a fresh document, there are not rules or anything.

I give up, I'll just put the page numbers in the center at the bottom.

It's funny, I have at least 4 different word processors and each one has 1 thing that makes it unusable (either lack of index or lack of linkback or goofy things like this page number thing).

Thanks again, I really appreciate your help Hamid.

Solved!

OK. Figured it out:

Under the header/Footer Section, "different headers" or "different footers" has to be checked depending where the page numbers are.

Thanks again.

And then you enter your page numbers separately -- one in a right hand page and one in a left hand page.
