as well MS Word 2003 (PC) files? I recently bought a MacBook and now use Mac Office Word 2008. It opens old files in MS Word (including PC) going back to 2002, but not earlier. I'm left with lots of files I cannot access. I also have old WordPerfect files from mid 90s that I can't open.

Nisus Writer Pro does read Word 97 .doc files, as well as WordPerfect. However, I suggest you download the demo yourself to make sure your files open with their full contents intact.

Thanks for the quick reply. I just downloaded the Nisus Writer Pro demo and was able to open an MS Word 2000 (PC) document, as well as an old pre-2000 WordPerfect document. That in itself is excellent. However, I have been unable to get it to read a Word '97 file. Actually, I'm not sure which version of MS Word I was using in 1997, it might have been Word '94 or Word '96. (PC) I'm wondering if I'm doing everything right within Nisus to open it. I clicked Open, double clicked the file name, then checked Open as New File (also tried it without checking that). Is MS Word 1997 (PC) as far back as Nisus Pro goes in terms of its ability to read MS Word (PC) files?

Yes, 97 is the oldest .doc format we read. It sounds like you're doing everything correctly, so probably that particular file is beyond our ability to open, sorry.

That would be Word 95, and the file format changed between then and Word 97.

Yes, Word 95 and Excel 95 docs -- I was still getting files produced on those particular disaster areas very recently -- are always a problem. They are the prime reason why I still keep a copy of MacLink Plus around ... to handle legacy stuff like that.
