I need these days the ability to exchange files with a pc-word (2003) user. when a hebrew/english file is opened by word, the text is formatted to LTR.
This results in a complete mess.. Naturally, one could select all and change it, but what is a nisus file contains some paragraphs in RTL and some in LTR? there is no easy way to solve it. I think.

(Who is to blame?) is there anything to do to prevent it?

I just opened a mixed Hebrew & English document saved by NWP in my copy of Word 2004 for OSX and the RTL/LTR directionality of the text is preserved. This has me suspect Word 2003 for PC is to blame, but we'll have to do some testing to find out.

We tested this with our copy of Word for the PC (2002) and the text directionality transferred just as it was in NWP. I can only suspect that something is wrong with version 2003 or the setup on the receiving machine. Sorry to not be of more help.
