Where are the Nisus glossaries?

I looked in ~Library/Application Support/Nisus Writer/Glossaries but the only two files in there are New Glossary.ngloss and RSV.ngloss, a file I created via QuickFix.

When I enable the auto complete feature I am offered a number of words to choose from, so somewhere there is a file with those words. Where might that be?

The file I created, RSV.ngloss isn't working for me although I do have it check marked to activate it. When I type one of the abbreviations I entered the Nisus glossary opens, instead. I've concluded I have two options: locate the Nisus glossary file and disable it or, better IMO, edit it to include my own text. but I'd have to find it, first.

I suspect I'm missing a step somewhere. Can someone here please walk me through it?

Thank you!

I am not sure I understood you correctly- reading your description it seems that you have checked the "suggest completion as you type" in the General pane of the preferences. but have you arranged the Quickfix pane you your needs? it looks to me that the instructions in the manual (pp. 190-192) describe how to edit entries, how to select the glossary file, and how to disactivate it. I guess that all other entries (if you have no glossary file at all) are listed in the quickfix window- don't they?

I had spent quite a bit of time on those pages you cited. The issue, at least in my case, were the abbreviations I chose. It appears to be a tad more involved than selecting an abbreviation that's easy to remember as suggested in the documentation. The abbreviation cannot be already in use (that's pretty obvious) and has to be longer than one character.

For instance, I needed an auto-fill for the word 'Schäferhund'. When I type 'Sch' Nisus suggests 'Schaumburg'. I will most likely never need to use 'Schaumburg' in any document. What I was wondering is, what is the file, and where is it, which contains this word as well as all the others it either expands (when checked) or suggests in the drop down window?

I made a glossary file named RSV.ngloss and I've activated it, and still Nisus opens a drop down window using its own words. I realize that I can disable that in QuickFix. What I would like to do though is type Sch and have it suggest Schäferhund or expand to Schäferhund, not Schaumburg.

The only two glossary files in the Nisus Appl. Support Library are "New Glossary" (by default) and RSV.ngloss, created by me. The latter is activated via a check mark. My question remains then: why does Nisus want to put Schaumburg instead of Schäferhund? Where is the file which contains Schaumburg? If only I could find it, I could edit it by substituting Schäferhund.

I've made a work-around by using abbreviations in the RSV.ngloss which are not already in use by Nisus's own file (I call it the Schaumburg file, little humour), which is clunky because the abbreviations I had to choose are not at all intuitive. Now I have to keep the glossary window open somewhere amidst all the other open windows just to remind myself what the abbreviations are. Clunky.

Could it be that you have dictionaries installed?

Um . . . in spell checker, you mean? I use the Am. English and German spell checker. Can't remember now whether I specifically installed those or whether they're there by default.

I would guess that word completion comes from those dictionaries, as glossary files are not there until you installed them, and my word completion does not work, and I have no spell checker installed.. but - I am not sure about it.
It will be intersting to hear other's views about it.

If I'm understanding the situation correctly, it sounds like you just want to turn off the "suggest completions as you type" option in the General preferences. The suggestions that option presents are generated by Apple and not by your glossaries. I'd guess that the list is populated from the system dictionary.

Martin! My hero!

Yep, that was the problem. I unchecked that box and ran a little test and IT WORKS! Thank you thank you thank you!

ETA: Ruchama, your mention of dictionaries was really helpful. I appreciate the assistance.
