Is it true that footnotes/endnotes can only be truly viewed (as opposed to rollover text) and edited in page view? If so, why?

It's true. As for the reason behind it: I don't know.

For endnotes, I don't know, apart probably from underlying code shared with footnotes. But consider, if you don't have a page in view, where are you going to put the footnote?

Microsoft Word, for instance, can display footnotes in Draft View. The screen is split in two, with the upper half showing the regular text, and the lower half the footnotes.

mrennie is correct, currently there's no way to edit footnotes/endnotes unless you're in Page view.

Martin--I have the sense that people have wanted this for quite some time. Is it on the list of things to do? AIs there something about this feature that makes it very hard to implement? I love draft view, but the lack of footnote support makes it much less useful. Otherwise, I'd probably rarely leave draft view.

best,

I think being able to edit footnotes/endnotes in Draft view is a great idea, and it is on the list of things to do. When we might add it, I couldn't say, sorry.

Dear Martin,
the chance to see footnotes in Draft View would be exceptionally useful. But I believe that has not been implemented up to now. Is there any chance to be done?

Thanks,

Rob
