blank space at foot of page

I'm getting chunks of blank space at the bottom of several pages in a document opened in NWP but created in Word (presumably - it was a doc file). I've fiddled with all sorts of thing - setting spacings to 1 line and before and after at 0, got rid of the widows/orphan options, but no good. Doesn't matter whether it's a new para or in the middle of a para. I've also tried adjusting the margins, and the page size (which seems to have got rid of some of the spaces since (presumably) the places where they occurred are no longer at the foot of a page. But I still have one chunk of space I can;t get rid of. (Of course, this is in page view - there's no problem in draft view).
Help please?
Iain.

Would you be able to send me the file via the menu Help > Send Feedback? I can take a look and see what might be triggering the space. Please be sure and let me know where the unwanted space occurs; a screenshot would do. Thanks!

Hi -
I would try "fixed" line spacing for all documents - instead…

Thanks Iain, I've received your file and screenshot. There's no bug here, just a matter of fitting that first footnote. Tt cannot fit entirely on page one along with its reference line, so both the reference and the note are forced to page two.
There are a couple of solutions:
1. If you don't mind splitting a 3 line footnote between pages, switch to NWP's stylesheet and change your Footnote style's "multi-page threshold". Try "20 pt" and "2 lines". (Note: there's an update bug here. You'll have to trigger layout or save/reopen the file for the change to take effect).
2. Adjust your footnote gutter (also in the stylesheet). It's currently set at 10 pts, but changing it to 1 pt allows the footnote to fit entirely on page one.
I hope that helps. Let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks Martin, I hadn't spotted the footnote.

I guess I need glasses.

But I've got another. Am I missing something here? (Sent via feedback).
