Document Manager size and behavior

I use the Document Manager all the time, so I have NWP set to show it at launch, but there seems to be no way for me to set it up to show what I want it to show at launch.
It comes up at the size and in the position it was when I was last using NWP, but it always shows the left column and the bottom box.
On 99 out of 100 days, I need only the documents window showing the contents of “All Managed”. On the 100th day, I need the left-hand column to select what I am looking for. I never need the box at the bottom -- in fact, I haven’t noticed its function before I tested it just now.
Yet I am forced to have both these parts of the Doc Manager open when I launch regardless of whether I want them or use them.
It is possible to close those parts of the Doc Man window by dragging the internal margins. Would it be possible to make such drags stick so that the Doc Man opened showing only what I want it to show -- the documents window?
And while you are at it, how about allowing the Doc Man window to be much narrower? I have it at its narrowest -- it would do everything I want it to do at a third to a half of that width with the left-hand column closed.
Cheers, Geoff
