NWP doesn't want to create a backup file anymore. Woe.

Howdy. I've tried this question on Nisus support and via email, no response yet; so I appeal to the wisdom of you folks:
've been getting this message when I try to set up a new doc in Nisus Writer Pro, even after I deleted my old NWP files and downloaded fresh ones from the NWP website:
Could not create the backup folder
The backup folder at "/Users/bradbiggs1/Documents/Nisus Documents/Backups" could not be created. No duplicate copy of the file was saved.
I have the following pathname and files
Macintosh HD/Users/bradbiggs1/Documents/Nisus Documents/Backups
so I think I should be able to save new backups there. However, I keep getting the "Could not create the backup folder" message.
I tried going in to preferences and adding a "1" to the "bradbiggs" that was there in the pathname to the backup folder. I did this because the following things happened when I tried to transfer files from my old MacBook Pro to my new MacBook Pro:
1. The ethernet I was told to use with migration assistant was slow and transferred only a very few files and some incompletely. I had to restart the transfer at
least two times due to apparent stoppage of the transfer from glitches with the wifi router or something.
2. Apple support told me to try it again with firewire. I did so. But there seemed to be problems with an additional user account I created on one of the ethernet transfer attempts.
3. I called Apple and worked with two techline support staff. The final firewire transfer using migration assistant worked, I was able to erase the extra user account I had created; but I was left with some duplication of files in User. There were a few files in <bradbiggs> the username in the old MacBook Pro, but all the files were in <bradbiggs1>, the new username folder in my new MacBook Pro.
So how can I get NWP up and working to specs again?
