Is it possible to edit text in a table cell?

Absolutely! Just click into the table cell with the mouse cursor and edit as you would anywhere else in the document.

I click cursor in cell and try to edit in the usual way, but I hear a "bong" and nothing happens. Apparently I'm doing something wrong. Suggestions? I am using the latest version of Nisus pro on a 2005 IMac using OS 10.5

I doubt you're doing something wrong- most likely is there is something strange going on with your document (or less likely, your system). Can you send in the document where the problem occurs using the menu Help > Send Feedback? I'll take a look, thanks.

Wait -- wait! It's OK. I made what I think was the proper change in Nisus Preferences and restarted. Now it works great, not only in my Mac but also in my wife's PC. Many thanks for your help with this excellent application.

Hrm, that's odd, your preferences should never affect whether or not table cells are editable. Well, so long as everything is up and running, we can all be happy 8)

Yeah, but ... What was the change?

It was irrelevant. I just had the same problem, and after reading this thread, I decided to try just quitting and restarting, without doing anything to preferences, since I couldn't see anything relevant in the preferences. Just quitting and restarting solved the problem.
