blank lines in numbered list

How do I get blank lines between items on a numbered list?
In the ways I've tried -- formatting the list as a number list before and after inserting the blank lines -- Nisus numbers the blank lines. If I delete those numbers, the second item on the list is assigned the number 1.
The instructions for creating numbered lists in the manual do not address this issue, at least as near as I can determine.

Howdy. I believe the second item you select and choose from the list menu “continue list” and it should become #2.

Thanks. I knew it had to be simple.

exegete77's tip to use the menu Format > Lists > Continue Numbering From Previous is a good one. That command is also available from the Lists toolbar item.
One other way: if you're often continuing numbering for a particular list style, you can configure the list style to continue numbering for the whole document by default. In the stylesheet view, select the list style, and then checkmark the option "continue numbering across document content". That may save you some time (and if you need it, the List menus show a restart numbering command).

Thanks for pointing out these options, Martin. When I went looking for help in the manual I encountered the explanation of "continue numbering across document content," but the way it was described I did not see it applying to my problem. It seemed to apply more to number of paragraphs or sections of text rather than lists.
I'm sure now it's there, but I don't recall encountering the menu and lists toolbar item solutions. They're the ones that will work for me, as I often have multiple lists with each list starting at number one.
Thanks again,
