Problems with Arabic

Yesterday I have updated to 10.6.7 in my MacBook Pro
In my Arabic text (written by Nisus) with the font Bayan there is now a problem.
Writing in Arabic baina بين or مهاجرين now appears only بي / مهاجري so I have to write after the Ya' the length line between consonants ـ Like this: بيـن in order to write the Nun.
In all my texts written before (!) I have now this problem, but only at the end of the words.

Any ideas?

You are right; I had not noticed this problem because I don't use Al Bayan.
There is a known issue with some fonts after the recent system update: Some characters become invisible but are not lost.
In the case of Al Bayan, in the examples you cited, the nūn disappears but it is not lost.
A subsequent update will possibly address this issue and the nūn will then reappear.
In the meantime, using another font will restore the nūn.

I just checked some other fonts which I don't use and which have the same problem as Al Bayan:

Baghdad
DecoType Naskh
KufiStandardGK
Nadeem

Nisus has no problem; it is 10.6.7.
We have seen problems of this kind after updating to 10.6.7:

OK. How can I return to 10.6. 6? The installation of 10.6.6 does not work now, because I have now 10. 6. 7

Orientalist,

downgrading to OS 10.6.6 indeed doesn't work that way. Here's what I did:

1. Re-install OS 10.6.x from the OS 10.6.x disc.
2. Download the 10.6.6 combo update, and run it.
3. Open "System Preferences" then "Software Update". Having done so, click "details" and be careful to un-check "OS 10.6.7 Update". Run the software update to get the current versions of your system software except OS 10.6.7.

(I'm sorry but I don't know how "Software update" or "details" reads in an English version of Mac OS, my OS being German. But I hope you get the gist of the idea.)

Hallo;

(If your (system) DVD is OS 10.6.6, you can re-install OS 10.6.6 directly, of course. I've just assumed you have the retail version of 10.6 which usually is 10.6.0. In that case, Software Update would have been recommended.)

Correct. I have 10.6.0
The problem with the fonts has been solved. I update now to 1O.6.6.

Thanks!

The latest Snow Leopard Font Update for Mac OS X v10.6.7 users (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1377?viewlocale=de_DE) does not solve the problem mentioned in Orientalist's initial post.

Hallo,
now I have since weeks Mac 10.6.8 and it works. Yes, it has worked until to day. Now I have the same problem again in Arabic: بين مسلمين in these and similar cases ن disappears! Not only in my documents but also when
I read Arabic newspaper on the Web.
I have just downloaded NisusPro 2.0.2 but it does not help.

Where is the problem?

...my remark about reading news on the Web should be neglected.

Well: how can I go back to OS 10.6.6 ? I have the DVD. Can I install it again, without loosing my files and pictures?

I have no idea, why this mess happend again.
