Paragraph Formatting Icons

Hi there, Nisus people

Now that Nisus Writer has tracked changes, I am finally able to switch my editing work from Word to Nisus.

The one thing I miss at the moment, though, is Word's style view, where the *name* of the paragraph style applied is shown in a pane on the left-hand side in Draft view. (That's about the only thing that I do miss, of course.)

I know there are some really wonderful things you can do with the paragraph formatting icons in Nisus Writer that make them more powerful than the Style Area view in Word, but in my line of work it really really helps to be able to see the name of the paragraph style (without having to click on the icon, as at present).

Is there any way we could have an optional "expanded" paragraph formatting view? By that I mean it would be great to be able to retain the current view as a "collapsed" mode, but also be able to drag out the gutter a little to show the paragraph style name as well (while keeping the icon and all its functionality as well, of course). Just that one little change would make the Nisus Writer implementation absolutely super brilliant.

Hope this all makes sense, and apologies if this is already possible and I've just not discovered how to do it ...

Cheers
Andrew

EDIT: Just realised I should actually be sending this through the Nisus Writer "Send Feedback" command, so I'll do that as well ... but I might as well leave this post here ...

It is possible to view all styles used in the active document window in both Draft View and Page View. All styles usable in the document are displayed in the Styles palette in the writing palette group in the Tooldrawer. The Tooldrawer can be set to open on the right or the left (from NWP Preferences=>General). You can also drag the Styles palette out of the Tooldrawer and place it to the left as in the screenshot:

The style(s) shaded in the palette are the styles used at cursor location.

Hi Hamid

Thanks for the suggestion, but it's not quite the same thing. I do know about the Styles palette, but for me it has the same drawback as the Paragraph Formatting icon, in that you need to click in each paragraph to see what style is applied.

What I'm hoping for is that Nisus can add the style name to the Formatting Icon, so that I can quickly scan through a manuscript to make sure that the correct styles are applied to the paragraphs.

If that doesn't make sense, perhaps the attached images will demonstrate the differences I'm referring to

Cheers
Andrew

Thanks for the clarification Andrew. Right now the paragraph formatting icons are as close as you'll get in NWP to what you like. You're not missing anything, but I'll file a feature request. Thanks.

Thanks Martin

I know that a feature request is not an implementation promise, but this feature is so useful to me that I will cling to my hope that it ends up in Nisus Writer :-)
