None of the other Lion compatibility threads addresses a major problem I'm having. When I try to open NWP 2.1, either by clicking its icon in the Dock or Launchpad, or by clicking a NWP file icon, it frequently crashes. Strangely, this behavior is not consistent. Sometimes it happens, and sometimes it doesn't, without any noticeable, repeated antecedent.

I've already tried re-downloading the software without effect. I've performed all the normal disk maintenance routines—also to no avail.

Does anybody have any idea what might be going on? Are there any known software conflicts? Is this a Lion thing?

Unfortunately I don't have any answer, but I can say that lately (last 1 or 2 weeks), I've been having NWP 2.0.1 "quit unexpectedly" after opening from sleep on my macbook pro (os x Lion). I open the lid of my computer and NWP is simply no longer running even though it was running just before the computer was put to sleep (so to speak). All the other programs I have running (which are many) are still there and working. Never had it happen before Lion, but that may be coincidental.

Anyway, don't know if it is exactly related to your problem or not. A bit mysterious and slightly annoying, but otherwise never have lost a file or had a file that NWP couldn't recover when I got to relaunch it.

Could both of you please submit feedback report after you relaunch NWP after a crash? That will automatically collect the prior crash log, which would hopefully help us understand the problem. Thanks!

I've received a feedback report from Josh/goldste4 and his problem is a real bug in Nisus Writer that we're looking into fixing. It can occur after working with Nisus Writer for some time, after a variety of documents have been opened/closed.

I haven't received any reports from WindyCity, so it's impossible to say if his bug is the same thing. But since he mentions Nisus Writer crashing on launch, I'd guess it's a different problem. We have had a variety of users experience crashes because they were using an older version of Default Folder on Lion. You might want to check if you that installed, and if it's up to date.

I have been having the same problem ever since I installed NWP 2 (I think that was before Lion was released, was it not?). I generally have to launch the program 3-4 times before it stays open (i.e. does not crash). This has made it almost unusable for me. Less often I get random crashes. I never had either of these problems with NMP 1.x on the same system.

I use a MacBook Pro 17" (2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo version with 4 Gb 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM installed). I am currently running Mac OS X 10.7.2

You mentioned submitting the feedback report after a crash. By that do you mean the one mentioned in the dialog that the system shows following a crash? I have done that before, but I will do it again the next time I use the program and have a crash on opening. Or do you mean the 'Send Feedback...' command under the NWP 'Help' menu? That I have not done, but will do as well.

For what it is worth, I do not have any version of 'Default Folder' installed. I do not think that I have ever had it, and could find no trace of it on my system.

I'm very sorry you've had such extreme difficulties with NWP.

The next time a crash occurs, please relaunch NWP (if you can) and then use the menu Help > Send Feedback. In general we aren't able to access the reports sent to Apple (the long story is that we have access to them only if you bought NWP through the OSX App Store). Even so, the feedback mechanism found on NWP's Help menu is more complete.

It would help if you could attach a copy of the latest crash report (as found in the logs via Console.app, or just copy-paste the contents of the Apple crash reporter window).
