Font weights not "sticking"

In a template, I am using an open face typeface that includes many font weights. One that I am using is a "Semibold" weight (selected from the "Face" drop-down menu on the Character palate). The heading paragraph style is set to use the Semibold weight, for instance. The problem is that the Semibold weight does not "stick." When I start a new document based on the template, the heading style uses "Bold" rather than Semibold, and I have to manually change it back to where it should be.

I've noticed that when Semibold is selected, the Bold button in the "Options" part of the Character palette gets selected too. In addition, "Bold" is listed as a paragraph attribute in the listing of the paragraph attributes in the style sheet view. I assume this is part of, or at least a symptom of, the underlying problem causing the semibold weight not to "stick."

Another post, if I read it right, says that this problem is a bug. Is this a bug? Is there a work around?

Thank you

That sounds like a bug, a semibold face should never turn into a bold face and vice versa. I believe we had the problem in the past, but it should be fixed now. I just tried with Adobe Caslon Pro and it works okay. What font gives you trouble, and what version of NWP are you using?

That's intentional. Even though it's not the full bold face, a semibold face should be considered bold in the options area (at least, if the font/OSX reports the face as such).

I was testing some more and I'm able to reproduce the problem; sorry about the confusion.

The errant change in face only affects the style definition, not any text in the document using the style (an override bleeds in). I'll file the bug for fixing, thank you!

I was using Adobe's Arno Pro. Nisus Writer Pro 2.01.

It seems like you are saying the appearance of the text is still correct. However, that is not the case. The actual appearance of the font is bold, as opposed to semibold. In addition, I should add that the font in the drop-down menu is changed to "Bold" as well. I failed to make that clear in my original post.

I should also add that I think I have noticed the same problem with other fonts, at least other weights of the same font (Arno Pro). Specifically, I am pretty sure I have noticed the problem with Semibold Italic and Bold Italic.

Understood, thanks for the clarification. The text will only appear correctly if the style is used and applied before the file is ever saved and reopened. Once that's done (through templating, a normal save/reopen, copy-paste, etc) any time the style is applied it will make text appear incorrectly.
