PDF or Microsoft Word Format

Writing a document with NWP in two languages (German and Arabic) works perfectly, of course.
Sending such a document (Save as...) in Microsoft Word Format is, however, problematic, since Mac Office does not support Arabic.

What remains is the PDF format, which can not be changed by the redaction where the doxument should be published.

Are there other possibilities to "save as..." (with Arabic!) in order to open the mixed document on PCs with Windows?

Or: is there a program which enables to change PDF texts?

Instead of Sichern als... you should do Exportienren als…
Then in the dialog window under 'Datiformat' select 'Microsoft Word Format (binär)' and export the document.
This will preserve both German and Arabic.
At the PC end they may have to change the Arabic font so that correct Arabic ligatures appear.

Thanks, Hamid.

It does not work. The Arabic is not readable.

When you say it does not work, what exactly do you mean?
In what program are you looking at your exported file?
It works for me even in Word (Mac 2011) which does not yet support Arabic.
A file created in NWP and then exported as Word (binary) appears correctly in Word (Mac 2011) on my iMac.
For the Arabic to appear correctly on the PC, you have to use fonts in your files which are supported on PC; otherwise ligatures will be broken on the PC.
To restore ligatures on PC, another Arabic font will need to be applied either on your Mac or on the PC.

Now I have sent my file according to your steps to the PC of my wife. Result: the Arabic text appears correctly, but not in a nice script.

After sendig back the same file to me again the Arabic is not readable.

That means: others can read my file with Arabic even if it is not correct on my Mac.

Other solutions?

Is there a program which makes possible to make changes in a PDF format?

Hi -

why not use the PC font - the redaction will publish your document with - on your MAC as well? Give it a try - Mac OS X is PC fonts ready. And why not try to save your document as RTF? This is a MS format BTW…

I dont understand what you are suggesting, Elbrecht.

I use the Arabic font Bayan. And everybody outside the Mac-world and Nisus will have a word-document in the redactions. They can not open RTF.

All my documents are on my Mac RTF, of course. - Also my transcriptions, but it is not the problem any more:( ḍ ḥ ṯ š....all these problems are solved with alt+letter...)

PDF is the best solution for all - but can it be opend on the other side?
O.

I don't know what kind of PDF editing software is available for Windows. I'm sure Adobe makes something, but I have no experience with it myself.

I believe Elbrecht is suggesting that you simply leave your documents in the RTF file format. Word (on both the Mac and PC) can read RTF files with no problem.

Martin:

Save as... + rich text format (RTF)
result: no footnotes appear.

That should work, and does in my testing. What version of Word exactly are you using to open the RTF file?

I have a Nisus Writer Pro file.

I save it: "save as..." first line above: Rich text format (RTF). This new document has than no footnotes.

I dont use any version of Word.

Now I'm very confused. I thought you were trying to save a file (using Nisus Writer) so that footnotes would appear when opened in Word. Apparently I had that wrong, so let's start over..

But how are you checking that this saved file has no footnotes? In other words, what application are you using to reopen this RTF file (and observing that it has no footnotes)?

This new file appears on the desktop
and I click on it.
In the left corner above I have "Textedit"

Hi -

So you open it with TextEdit? No wonder then…

Hello,
yes: Rich Text Format in Save as...will be opend after click on it automatically with TextEdit.

I used now:open with + Microsoft Word and it works. I have the footnotes and on the PC everybody can read the Arabic text as well (but I can not on my Mac - but it does not matter)

So my solution is: open RTF format by Microsoft on the PC
