Can't open a document written in arabic (Nisus 1)

Hi, I am working on Mac os X 6.8 with Nisus version 2 (Free version on trial).
My colleague gave me a document with arabic texts, written 6 years ago on Mac OS and Nisus Version 1.
When I open the document, I see latin fonts with strange signs (like ±®¯ ÈÓòå Çääñç ÇäÑÍåæ ÇäÑÍêå Õäñé Çääñç Ùäé ÓêñÏæÇ åÍåñÏ èÙäé Âäç èÓäñå ÊÓäêåëÇ etc etc). I tried to open the document with Nisus Version 1 (I have a license for Nisus Version 1), but the problem remains the same.
The document that has been given to me has no extension, and when I ask for any information about it (apple + i), it says: "Type: Document". No more information, no extension, nothing.
Please help me, it's very important....

The problem is likely either:

1. That your Classic Nisus Writer file has lost its "resource fork". This is a special thing used by the old Mac OS (before OSX) to store text formatting, fonts, etc. If the fork is missing, the font information for your text is gone, and your text becomes the gibberish you see now.

2. You don't have the necessary font installed on your computer, so the text displays as gibberish instead of the Arabic characters you expected.

How did your colleague give you the file? He should archive the original file before transferring it to you, to make sure the resource fork stays intact.

Hi Martin
Thanks for your answer.
I have the font, it is Arabic Unicode, that is supposed to be read on any Word / Nisus document.
My colleague copied the file on a USB flash drive. Can you tell me exactly what to do in order to "archive the original file"?

Thanks!

Ask your colleague to compress (zip) the original Nisus file before sending it to you.

Dear Hamid,
Thanks. I'm going to do this and will let you know what's going on.
