Unable to get cursor in new document

Quite often I am unable to get a cursor to appear on a new, blank page, and so I am unable to write, or even to paste text.
What causes this problem, and how is it overcome?

I cannot reproduce the problem.
If you press Enter can you get the cursor to appear?

This sounds a little strange. After you see the problem, could you please use the menu Help > Send Feedback? Hopefully some of the collected logs will give us a clue.
Some followup questions:
1. If you explicitly click into the new document after it shows, does the insertion point (caret) appear?
2. Does the caret appear in existing documents, that already have text? And if so, can you type text there?
