Unintended switch to Hebrew when I go back to paragraph which is written in English.

I just started with Nisus and something weird is happening. I type my diss mostly in English but have to use Hebrew from time to time. For a time everything functioned very well. I could switch from English to Hebrew and back without a problem. But now I type a whole paragraph in English without switching even one time but when I get back to it and start typing in the middle of certain sentence the language is switched to Hebrew without me doing anything (an then the language is changed even when I type in outside form Nisus).
I checked in styles, as well as the language preferences in Mac and Nisus and everything seem alright.
Also: When I mark the whole paragraph the icons in the toolbars below and above show that it is written in English but THEN when I click at a free space in the same paragraph it switches automatically to Hebrew and I have to switch it manually back which is really really annoying.
I used word for years and switched to Nisus because I heard its much more stable. I hope this is not a bug but something which can be fixed easily.
Also: I copied the whole text in a new document - the same thing happens.
I really need some help.

Hi Hannah: it sounds like probably parts of your English paragraph are incorrectly marked with the Hebrew language attribute. Languages in Nisus Writer work like other kinds of formatting (eg: font, size, color, etc), in that you can apply any language to any bit of text and have multiple languages applied in a single document.

It's important to remember that this language attribute/formatting is not the same thing as the keyboard layout; these two are completely different things, though Nisus Writer can help you link them. As said the language attribute is something applied to text in your document, while the keyboard layout is a global/system state that controls what kind of letters your keyboard produces.

If you have select (or click into) some text marked in the Hebrew language, depending on your language preferences, then Nisus Writer will automatically change your keyboard layout to Hebrew as well. It sounds like this is your problem, that you have some text incorrectly marked in the Hebrew language attribute, and thus the keyboard is switching as well. To be sure, you should do this:

1. Select the English text that is causing the unwanted keyboard layout switch.
2. Use the menu Format > Language > English to enforce/apply the proper language attribute.

That should hopefully do the trick. I should mention there are many ways to switch the language in Nisus Writer. Any of those will work; you do not have to use the Format menu.

Thank you very much for your fast reply. So far it did the trick (I have tried the the same thing via the language palette with no avail but via the 'format path' it worked)

I'm glad that solved the problem for you Hannah. I'm surprised the language palette didn't work for you because that controls exactly the same thing as the menu Format > Language.

If you like we can follow-up and see what might be wrong with your language palette, so you can use it instead. If you're like to pursue the issue it would be best if you could try to use the language palette, and then after it fails, send in a report using the menu Help > Send Feedback. We can take a look at the collected logs and document to see what might be amiss.

But if you don't want to bother that's okay too– so long as you're happy and working successfully, that's the important thing.
