Exiting Full Screen mode

This is probably a silly question. Just jumped from Snow Leopard to Mavericks (not willingly). I'm exploring "full screen" mode in Nisus Writer Pro, but I can't figure out how to go back to normal "page view." Escape is how it's usually done. The only thing that I can do is Command-W to I have to close out the document altogether. This is clearly a design flaw or I'm just an idiot. If anyone can help, I would much appreciate it.

I usually exit using the mouse. (Move the mouse to the top of the screen, and the menu bar appears.)

You can set a keyboard shortcut for View:Full Screen. That will toggle Full screen in-out.

Philip is exactly right: the default (Apple provided) way to exit a full screen window is to move the mouse cursor to the top of the screen, let it linger until the menu bar appears, and then (on the right side of the menu bar) click the bright blue icon. It's a little box with compressing arrows inside it.
