Working With Nisus and Word 2010

Hello everybody,

I downloaded NWP but in my office I have to work in Word 2010. And I'm doing my PhD and I'll send texts to my professors who work with Word Office.

I'm having some formatting/layout problems (footnotes, spacing between lines, figures) in the documents when I convert it or save in .doc or .rtf and others. I try to export to all formats and I always have problems.

Anyone had these problems or know how to work in these 2 plataforms ?

Thank you!

Hello ViniciusR,

welcome to the forum. There are many clever people here, and I'm sure they can give you a better answer than I can.

If I understand you right, we are talking about Word for Windows here, isn't it?

I don't have Word for Windows, but opening a NWP document in Word for Mac has never been a problem for me, so the problem you seem to have is this: RTF files and .doc documents are not rendered correctly when opened in Word for Windows (Word 2010).

It would be helpful if you could tell us what kind of PhD you are writing (in physics? biology? history?)

Your description of the problem is too vague. What happens with the footnotes exactly, for example?

Hi Þorvarður,
sorry, I didn't have time to answer before.

Yes, but the Word for Mac also have the same problems:

1- It can't open archives saved in NWP
2- If I export to .doc and others, I have problems in configurations.
RTF files and .doc documents are not rendered correctly when opened in Word for Windows (Word 2010).
Yes, but my Word for Mac also have problems to open some .rtf, you don't have this problem?

I'm doing my PhD in Anthropology (with images, graphics, etc).

Problems in export and open in Word (when it open):
footnotes: they desappear
images: they change of place or not apper
space between lines: I configured 1.5 but when I export to others formats, it change to 1.

THank you a lot,

What version are you talking about? Please be more specific.
1- It can't open archives saved in NWP
I have no idea what you mean by "archives saved in NWP". Nisus doesn't have any "archives".
my Word for Mac also have problems to open some .rtf, you don't have this problem?
No.
Problems in export and open in Word (when it open):
footnotes: they desappear
Here are screenshots which show you that footnotes are preserved when you open Nisus documents in MS Word. In Word you need to be in "Print Layout View", of course, to see footnotes.
space between lines: I configured 1.5 but when I export to others formats, it change to 1.
The screenshots show that the line spacing is also preserved.

First the Nisus document. The *green* color of Note references is just my individual preference. It can be changed or turned off completely in Preferences > Appearance > Automatic Text > Note references

Oops…, the screenshots are too big for this forum. So please access them here instead, and click on the folder called "Nisus and MS Word":

Hello Vinicius,
do your professors ask you to submit in Office format? Wouldn't it be more reasonable to send them drafts in pdf? As a professor myself, I certainly want my students to submit their work in an 'uneditable' format, and I generally ask them to use pdf. It is still possible to put comments in a pdf.

Collaboration is a different issue of course, but in that case it generally would be better to use the same format.
