problems with images in docx-files

Post by alange »

I like to open a docx file in NWP 2.1.1 This file contains an image. In the Mac-preview I could see this image. But if I open this file in NWP, I can't see this image anymore. I tried other files - same problem. Has anyone an idea?

Thanks!

Check your import settings in NWP Preferences>Advanced.
They should be set at 'LibreOffice (more complete)' to get the best results when importing .doc, .docx, and .odt files.

Of course I choose "LibreOffice" in the settings of NWP - but it is not possible to import docx-files, which contains images. I could only import text, but no graphics/images. That is very bad - what could I do (as a teacher) with my docx-files? I passed up MS Word and wanted to replace it with NWP. But this is obviously difficult. Or has anyone an idea?

Do you mean, it could be good to install the full LibreOffice app?

Yes,

install latest LibreOffice and Open your ".docx" - then Save As ".rtf" and Open with Nisus Writer Pro. Give it a try!

In that case, the images are not inline with text but floating. LibreOffice does not support floating content of doc and docx files. Hence its import filters for DOC and DOCX files used by NWP will not convert floating objects of Word files.

Thanks a lot for this information. This is a big problem for me, because I have many, many worksheets made in Word. So NWP is not an alternative for me.

If you don't have MS Word, then your best bet is to do what Elbrecht suggested. LibreOffice is free and doesn't require any installer.

I personally use LibreOffice to open and convert old MS Word documents from the 90ies. When I switched to OS X all those old documents lost their ending and showed up in Finder as Unix Executable Files. Nisus doesn't recognize the format, but is able to open them as Plain Text. LibreOffice can open them with a simple double click, and all formatting is preserved. In LibreOffice I save them as Rich Text Files so that I can use them with Nisus.

I made a short test now. I created a .docx document with pictures in Word. After I opened the document in LibreOffice, I could either save it as Rich Text File for Nisus or just copy and paste the whole document. Either way, I got all the pictures in Nisus without a problem.
