I use centimetres for my units in NWE. When I drag around a new tab marker or position the indents on the ruler, they do not position themselves on what I would regard as sensible values. For example, dragging a tab marker will show values like 5.56cm, 5.61cm, etc. I cannot get them positioned on rounded values like 5.5, 6.0, etc. I can position them if I double-click them and use the popup dialog, but if I drag them again they 'snap' (really they 'wobble') all over the place again.

Is there any way to get them to snap to 'sensible' values, or is there some reason why things work this way? I notice that Word also positions tabs on strange values when you drag them around. Is it just because of an internal conversion from inches to cm?

I find it much easier to position things in equal increments, etc, if the values are simple.

This appears to be a bug. Nisus Writer should snap to the appropriate measures based on the ruler units you have selected. We will fix this for a future release. In the mean time, I suggest you continue to use the dialog to set your specific locations. Sorry for the inconvenience.

With all due respect, and without knowing what your manpower and other commitments are, from a user's perspective, I would hope that you would have a maintenance release (just bug fixes but no new features) before the middle of 2005. Tabs are critical to the functionality of any word processor and unique features like power find, which are also crippled by bugs at present, are some of your most unique selling points. People have bought your product expecting these features to work. I do understand that every release takes time away from development. But as a user, I would prefer to see frequent maintenance releases, even if each one only fixes a few bugs and even if it means that new features are a bit slower out the door. For many users, a single buggy feature means the difference between using your program and using the competition's.

Thanks for your constructive feedback. Please don't misunderstand me: we definitely understand how important it is to release fixes to people's problems as soon as we can. In fact, in the last four months we have had three releases alone with bug fixes.

We have not scheduled our next release yet, which is why I said first half of 2005. Our next release will hopefully be much sooner than that; it just depends on how soon we are able to get Nisus Writer into a stable state so we can release it.
