Technical Note: Newer versions of Nisus Writer read files created in older versions, and older versions read files made in the newest version (though features unsupported in previous versions may not work). For example, markers in headers will not be preserved in a 6.0 file opened with an old version.

Beginning with version 5.1 all "return" characters do not determine character attributes. This causes an internal change in the file, and may change the file's appearance. So the "File Changed" indicator (pencil in the Info Bar) appears when you have not manually changed a file.
