Menu Keys Preferences: I cannot assign certain commandtype

I would like to assign simple two keystroke commands such as:

ctrl R (for red text)

But when I fill the blank field with an "R" Nisus automatically adds an apple COMMAND keystroke as well.

This means that my effort to assign

ctrl R

is forced to come out as

ctrl command R

How can I keep Nisus from forcing me to add this additional command? I have tried to delete the symbol for command, but it can't be deleted.

You cannot, because, on the Mac platform, the Command key is required to give key commands. You can assign, for example, Command-r to red.

I don't think you can- as far as I know the command is must be there..

Hiya Hilde

I suspect comnmand+r is some system command -- you can look in the system preferences to check.

This is where your Nisus Writer multiple key commands come to the fore. Try setting up your colours with two letter commands. For example, command+r+e for red. "r" and "e" are handily situated adjacent to each other, which is one of the tricks of multiple key commands -- you want those keys to be under one hand and near each other so you can hit them both comfortably.

It is strange that MS Word can assign control and R but not Nisus. The issue mentioned above about the command key does not prevent Word from doing what I want.

Geoff's suggestion is a good one, though, and likely all I need.

Basically MS Word — unless you're on 2008, which I'm unlikely ever to use and therefore know nothing about — is built on a mort of proprietary code. NWP makes use of the OS-X APIs and system calls. Two very different apps.

For what it's worth, I use Cmd-RR for red and Cmd-BB for black. Blue has to be Cmd-BL, though. The double-character commands are extremely useful and I find myself wishing I could have them in other apps.
