Joining characters in Arabic

I can't find out how to make NW Pro join the characters in Arabic text-something that seems to happen automatically when I use TextEdit, or indeed when I write an email in Entourage! I understand of course that there will be times when one would want "joining" characters not to join.

Any help would be appreciated

What Arabic font are you using which causes this oddity?
