I have Nisus Writer Pro preferences set to autosave documents every two minutes, and to overwrite the old document.
But I can't see where the autosave is happening ---- when I look at my documents file, the time for the document is the last time I did a manual "Save as."
When I look in Document Manager, I see nothing at all from today; and I don't see this document at all.
I've read the manual, and it sounds as though I should be seeing something in the Document Manager. But I'm not.
Where is my autosave going? And how can I access it?
Thanks. Candace
P.S.
saving still a mystery to me

If your autosave is set to "overwrites existing files" then no additional copy of your document is made. Autosave simply replaces the old/last copy of the document with a current copy saved to the same location. Personally I wouldn't recommend this option for most users; better to save to the temporary backup folder in case you realize you've made some errors.
You should note that in all cases autosave does not occur if there are no outstanding changes since your last manual save. Also, the autosave time resets itself each time you save. So the period must fully elapse after the last manual save before autosave kicks in.

Hi Martin,
So if I switch to autosave to temporary backup file only, I should be able to find the last version of the document in the Document Manager? Classic Nisus used to have an option so when you autosaved every -- say 5 minutes, or 1000 keystrokes --- it saved the doc with a slightly different name, so you could always go back at least one step if you made a horrible error.
It sounds as though autosaving to temporary back-up files would do that -- but do I find the document in the Document Manager then?
Thanks.
By the way, I really do read the manual and try to figure these things out before I post on the forums..... Candace

The backups won't show in the Document Manager window, but you can find them on disk in your home directory at:Candace wrote:So if I switch to autosave to temporary backup file only, I should be able to find the last version of the document in the Document Manager?
~/Documents/Nisus Documents/Backups/
But I don't think our current backup feature is exactly what you want. As is, the features is intended to guard against crashes and not so much act as a document backup/history. The backups created by autosave are kept only temporarily in case NWP or your Mac crashes. In that event, the next time you launch NWP it will ask you if want to restore the backups. It's designed to be a transparent safety net.
NWP doesn't have that feature. However, halfway into this thread there is discussion about macros that perform additional save actions.it saved the doc with a slightly different name
It's no problemBy the way, I really do read the manual and try to figure these things out before I post on the forums..... Candace
