Copy a *whole* table, not just the content

Post by andreas »

Is it possible to copy a table completely, i.e. with the actual table grid preserved? NWP only seems to take along the text.

I've tried copying rows which kind of works but only takes along partial cell content and applies a strange formatting (black borders at the top and left of the cells) to the pasted area.

Am I missing something?

Apply the menu Table:Select:Table. This selects the whole table and allows to copy it.
You can also select the whole table using Command-a twice, once to select a cell. Then while any cell is selected, press Command-a again. This will select the whole table.ً

Thanks. But copying is not the problem - sorry, my description was not clear in that respect. I can *copy* the whole table but on pasting just the text is being pasted, not a table.

I've just discovered the command to convert the pasted text into a table - however, that applies standard formatting and borders which I have to change again afterwards. So it's a bit cumbersome.

I might have to make a macro for that, it seems. Or are there other ways?

Hiya Andreas

This is weird. On OS X.4.11, NWPro 1.1, I get a copy of the whole table with contents all properly formatted by:

1) clicking outside it on its left and dragging down so the whole area the table is sitting in is selected, then copying and pasting,

2) clicking in a cell and dragging so that the all cells are selected, then copying and pasting.

3) clicking in one cell then going command-a twice, then copying and pasting.

4) clicking in a table, then going table:select:table, then copying and pasting.

I get a small table which is a copy of part of the table with contents properly formatted by:

5) clicking in whatever cell, dragging to select more cells, then copying and pasting.

Are you, by any chance, copying text only? Did you reverse your shortcuts, for example, so that your command-c gives you copy text only, and shift-command-c gives you copy?

What OS are you on? What version of NWPro?

Cheers, Geoff

Thanks for your detailed post, Geoff. I've identified the problem: I'm using Copypaste (http://www.scriptsoftware.com/copypaste/) and had selected "paste text without style attributes" there. Switching it off solved the problem and I can now copy and paste tables in full.

Thanks very much!

Hi Forum

I saw this thread as I've been trying to solve this problem

I'm a brand new user and am working on a big doc with others who use MS word. I'm on MAC and IOSX 10.8.5

They sent me an rtf file with tables in it, created in Word that I need to add into the main doc.

I opened that rtf file with Nisus. Via rt click, - open with - Nisus pro

All good I thought, tables are there in the Nisus doc and look OK. I can go into cells and edit and formatting looks fine

BUT.... I just cannot copy and paste these tables into my main document that I'm working on in Nisus

I've tried every permutation of copy paste and nothing works.

copy paste just gives me text with no formatting

Choosing 'character attributes' seems to copy but nothing at all pastes in

tried the 'copy table' tactic from this thread's info but again, nothing but text

I also switched off my 'Copypaste' completely (as per Andreas) but no difference and it was also set to NOT copy paste as plain text

I'm almost thinking of copying my entire big report doc and pasting that in before these tables to make a new doc that includes them but I'm sure I'm missing something simple here.

Any help much appreciated,

Cheers and Best Wishes,

Philip
