Hidden text?

Post by andreas »

I've been using Word (first 2004, lately 2008) for years now but even in the new version some old bugs keep annoying me so I'm looking for an alternative.

I have a specific question: is it possible to replicate the "hidden text" feature of Word in Nisus Writer Pro? This means that the text is still in the document but can be "made invisible" with a switch.

Thanks for suggestions.

Hi,

I'm afraid invisible text is not (yet?) part of Nisus Writer Pro's feature set. You could use very rough workarounds (create a paragraph/character style that turns text white), but this solution is clumsy at best, as the physical space occupied by the "hidden" text is still clearly visible.

I've found a solution - I only ever need to hide the text for a printed version. So I wrap the "hidden" text in curly brackets, run a macro that deletes everything between curly brackets and sends the document to the printer, then I undo the delete and I'm done.

It's not perfect but perfectly usable.

Hi andreas,

great workaround! I'm sure many forum users would appreciate your posting the script online (if you don't mind, that is); sounds like a useful script to have until a proper solution is implemented in Nisus Writer Pro.

I call that a "courageous" solution, Andreas! :D If I tried it, there would be a strong possibility that the bowdlerised print version to be saved ...

I know - have to get used to holding the command - s fingers back :-).

I tried to integrate the undo command into the macro but I couldn't get it to work. I tried the exact wording the menu command has after running the macro but the problem seems to be that this command contains double quotes and I don't know how to escape them.

Or can you use key shortcuts in a macro? Command - z would be generic.

But I just realised that undo works beyond saving - so no problem there :-).
