I had something happen today that was EXTREMELY annoying! I was creating a document that has a lot of large (page size) images. Everything seemed to be going fine, but when I opened the file this morning all the images were gone. I was hoping maybe they just weren't being displayed, but the file size is now only 4 KB.
The file is in RTF format. Some earlier postings indicated that might be the problem. Even if that's the case, I don't think having the images just silently disappear is proper behavior!
I can recreate the file, but what should I do to prevent this happening again?
Disappearing images
Re: Disappearing images
Well I figured out what happened. Somehow the file was saved in the old RTF format. Apparently as long as I didn't exit from Nisus Writer the images were displayed but when I exited, the file was written without the images. How the file type changed I have no idea! After some searching in the docs it looks like I should be using RTFD since I have so many images.
A suggestion to the Nisus folks: if a document has images the user should be warned if they try to save to a format that doesn't support images. That sure would have saved me some time!

Re: Disappearing images
While I agree with you about an alert being helpful, somehow you must have selected the "old RTF format" from the drop-down in the Save dialog, as the default RTF format saves placed images without problem in my experience. Or is there an option in the preferences to save to old RTF format as default — I've not looked — which you have set at some point.kmkohler wrote:Well I figured out what happened. I'm glad you were able to sort out your problem, though.

Re: Disappearing images
Hiya km
I just tried an inline image (not very large) and it saved and re-opened fine in NWPro 1.1, OS X.4.11. Works the same in all three RTF formats offered.
I tried making a larger -- vertical -- image "Fixed to Page" and it disappeared off the screen in front of me!
Okay -- I tried the larger image, resized it first to fit on the page, then fixed it to the page. Worked fine as inline, move with paragraph and fixed to page in all three RTF formats.
---
MARTIN!!! Problem!!!
Inserting an image which is larger than the page horizontally, but not vertically, is not a problem. It hangs over the edges of the page and you can grab a corner and resize it.
IN horizontal format pic:
-- In line -- it shows on the page within the margins.
-- Move with paragraph -- it shows on the page, but the sides expand out to hang over the edges of the page.
-- Fixed on page -- As for Move with paragraph. No apparent change.
BUT insert an IDENTICAL image except that it is vertcial, and you get:
-- In line -- it shows on the page within the margins.
-- Move with paragraph -- it shows on the page, overlapping the margins and going out towards the edges of the page.
-- Fixed on page -- it just disappears!
-- Select either In-line or Move With Paragraph again, and the picture reappears.
This is a random family pic I had on my HD. It is 96 dpi, 768 x 1024 pxs, or 20.3 x 27.1 cm. JPEG format.
So at 96 dpi, it is NOT larger than the page vertcically. Is NWPro converting it to 72 dpi by any chance? Or does NWPro simply object to hanging over ALL the margins, or perhaps the headers and footers (which were empty)?
Cheers, Geoff

Re: Disappearing images
This sounds like exactly the problem I've had for some time.
When the image disappeared and I didn't know how to get it back, I inserted the image again. After doing this a few times, I looked inside the RTFD and there were 3!! copies of the same image, file.jpg, fille-1.jpg, and file-2.jpg
Thanks for the hint on how to get an image to reappear!

Re: Disappearing images
Hi km
From my experiments, if they are too big for the page, vertically, they are never going to hang in there as "Fixed to Page".
