Paragraph orientation "top to bottom"

Post by ninjagame »

I'd like to know if it is - or will someday be - possible with NWP to have a paragraph orientation from top to bottom and from right to left like e.g. in traditional Chinese? Furthermore, is there a possibility (or a workaround) to add auxiliary hiragana/katakana characters to kanji characters as it's common in Japanese schoolbooks in Primary School or in textbooks for students learning Japanese?

Thx,

Neither of those features are currently available, and any work around would likely be more effort than is practical. The second one you describe, adding auxiliary characters above primary characters, sounds like ruby/gloss/furigana. When such features might be made available I couldn't say, but ruby is probably more likely to be added than vertical text layout.

Thanks, Martin, for the reply. To be honest, I figured this much but I wanted to be sure. Actually, I posted the question because my girlfriend, who is Japanese, is looking for a word processor to write a Japanese textbook for academic purposes; and somebody from the Japanese community here in Hamburg told her that that had been possible with NisusWriter Classic. I couldn't verify that, however.

Never mind. Thanks again.

I'm no expert on Classic Nisus Writer, but I believe it had both of the features you're looking for. It's too bad NWP won't work for her, but hopefully one day!
