This question is probably directed mainly to Martin, but if anyone else knows- I will be happy to hear about it:
I just had another episode of disappearing text; a file that again and again is opened empty eventhough the text was saved. It is not a question of dispaly, as no parameter has been changed, a simple text file. I remember it happened also far in the past, but was there a solution except getting rid of the file and starting over?
thanks,
empty file

Re: empty file
Did you explicitly save the file using the "plain text" format, or just use the default RTF? Likely it was the latter, in which case disappearing content can be the result of a corrupt font. Please read this thread for more, and let me know if you have any questions. Unfortunately once the file has been saved incorrectly, the original text is not recoverable.
Re: empty file
Could a font be corrupt and not show any sign of it in many many other files? there is nothing specific about the text in this file..
( the file was saved as rtf, the default.)
Thanks.

Re: empty file
The problem occurs at the time the file was saved, not when opened, so other files may not exhibit the issue unless they were saved under the same conditions. Are you able to reproduce the problem now with new text that you type?
Re: empty file
no, I can't reproduce it. This specific file was recreated with the same parameters and nothing is wrong. (I did keep the faulty file, in case you want to check it). However- the font (lucida grande) is used in practically all the my other files, it is my default font. It is a bit worring that this could happen - does your experience say that it happens only on the first time the file is saved, or could it happen anytime? Is there a way to verify that this is indeed the cause?
Is this a Nisus phenomenum or a general one? as rare as it is, it is only a fluke that nothing important was lost...

Re: empty file
If it only happened the one time, then perhaps the cause of the trouble is something else entirely. In the cases where a corrupt font was the culprit the problem was reproducible each and every time; any text with the font applied always went missing upon save. If you send your file to us using the menu Help > Send Feedback we can take a look, but often it's hard to diagnose something after the fact.
Re: empty file
Strangely enough, when I re-opened the file in order to send the report - all the text reappaeared.. I can't explain this behaviour, but I did send the file to you. if you find a reason or a possible source for a problem I will be happy to hear about it...

Re: empty file
I'm afraid the file doesn't suggest any possible causes. It opens normally over here, with all the Hebrew text and formatting intact. Thanks for the file and sorry to not be of any help. If it ever happens again, please send in a feedback report immediately, as it may provide us with additional clues.
