Suddenly, Nisus is making my footnotes from Scrivener into endnotes. I've tried to convert them as explained in the Help Document but I don't seem to have the green button in my status bar that does the conversion. I'm using version 1.3.1 Can someone help, please?
A: Why is Nisus not recognising footnotes from Scrivener?
B: Why don't I have the green button in the status bar to convert endnotes to footnotes - and how can I do it?
Thanks
Jenny
Convert Endnotes to Footnote
Re: Convert Endnotes to Footnote
Jenny, off the top of my head, are you sure you haven't changed the setting in the "Compile" dialog in Scrivener; your "footnotes" within Scrivener can be exported as either footnotes or endnotes depending on the click of a radio-button.jennydiski wrote:Suddenly, Nisus is making my footnotes from Scrivener into endnotes. As for what's going on in Nisus in terms of trying to change them, I don't know as I've never tried to do this ... I'm sure someone more helpful than me will be along!

Re: Convert Endnotes to Footnote
Thanks, Mark, but no, I checked I'd compiled as footnotes. Just bad magic as far as I can see.

Re: Convert Endnotes to Footnote
I couldn't say without seeing your document- perhaps you can send it to us using the menu Help > Send Feedback. Please attach a copy before it was opened/saved in NWP.jennydiski wrote:A: Why is Nisus not recognising footnotes from Scrivener?
Make sure that your selection rests inside the footnote/endnote text area. That's when the green tag will appear in the status bar. Here's what you want to do:B: Why don't I have the green button in the status bar to convert endnotes to footnotes - and how can I do it?
1. Place the selection in any endnote.
2. Select All.
3. Use the menu Footnote from the green tag.
If the green tag is missing a "Footnote" menu it's because your document is missing a footnotes style. The easiest way to add the style is to insert a dummy/empty footnote anywhere in your document. You can delete it after you convert your endnotes.
Re: Convert Endnotes to Footnote
Jenny,
I have just checked and my footnotes exported by Scrivener are recognised as footnotes by NWP and not treated as endnotes. It turns out I don't have a footnote style defined in the Nisus New File, either, though I have done so in other documents and templates, so it is using the default footnote layout. In other words, the reason yours is converting them is not because you don't have a footnote style defined. On the other hand, I have never used endnotes to date, so I have no endnote style defined either. Do you? If so could that be a reason that they are switching on your machine?
If that's not the case, what happens with other wordprocessors? If they also make the switch, it would seem to be something to do with your export from Scrivener.

Re: Convert Endnotes to Footnote
I finally copied, rather than compiled, the stuff from Scrivener to Nisus and it worked all right. In a bit of a rush, so I couldn't spend much time solving the problem. I'll see what happens when I've got a bit more time.
Thanks for the help.
Jenny
