Character palette
My Character Palette extends down past the bottom of my screen. I can't get to its underparts. Besides, I never use most of the fonts listed there. So, (1) how can I manage the palette? and (2) how can i hide or delete fonts I never use? I am using an older iMac G5 OS 10.5.

If you can get at it, you can simply resize the palette by dragging the bottom right corner like any other window. If you can't see the corner for the moment, click on the triangle next to "Character Info" and/or the "Font Variation" parts of the palette to minimise them temporarily. As you drag re-size, it is the list of glyphs that gets resized. The other parts you can re-open if and when you need to.Norman Kline wrote:My Character Palette extends down past the bottom of my screen. I can't get to its underparts. I don't imagine you can get rid of any of the sets of glyphs that appear in the top part of the palette as that is a list of the symbols provided by all the code-points in UTF8. You also need to be a bit careful removing fonts, as doing anything with fonts required by the system or certain apps can have very strange effects, including making the computer almost unusable.
Another question: have you changed your screen resolution to less than the maximum? If so, reset it to the maximum, drag-reduce the palette until it will fit and then reset the resolution to what you want.

Hi, Norman. You can disable/delete fonts via Font Book, in your application folder. Select a font or font family, then click on the gear and select “Disable XYZ Family” if you want to temporarily make it unavailable. Or, click on the gear and select “Remove XYZ Family” to permanently delete it. I wouldn’t delete any font, though. And, note that this is system-wide, that is fonts are disabled or deleted for all applications.Norman said:

Thanks, all. I should have thought of enlarging the display! All is well now. I appreciate the quick and helpful response.
